As much as possible, there should be at least two personnel performing the shutdown procedure. It is essential the equipment should be shutdown properly based on the shutdown procedures for safety purposes and also to prevent equipment damage. Notify affected employeesīefore doing any maintenance, affected employees should be notified that the equipment will be unavailable for use, the schedule of the work, and how long the equipment will be unavailable. In order to mitigate or prevent such accidents to happen, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) created a Lockout/Tagout Standard ( The Control of Hazardous Energy CFR 29, Part 1910.147 Lockout / Tag out ) which would greatly help operators or maintenance workers perform repairs and services in a safe manner.
